Calligraphy is so versatile, that it can be used/applied in several aspects of daily life. When I started learning Calligraphy, I was clueless about its many applications. However, after spending the past couple of years immersed in this art and after learning from & observing the amazing community of Calligraphy that is out there, I have compiled a list of things you can do with this beautiful art:
Letters – One of the most common ways to put Calligraphy to use is by writing personal letters. I have received quite a few orders for letter writing in the past years. Handwritten letters, in my opinion, are the best gifts that one can give their loved ones. Personal Notes – If writing a letter feels tedious (which normally takes about 1-2 hours for an A4-sized letter), writing quick notes to your family/friends, either as a greeting card or a gift tag, is another great option to explore Calligraphy.

Thank-You Cards – Nowadays, thank-you cards are part of most celebrations. Write a beautiful note thanking guests or just about anyone who has helped you in any way; in school, at the office, or someone in your family or your friend circle. Gratitude goes a long way through these special notes.

Projects/assignments – This one is specifically for all school/college students. I wish I knew how to write in Calligraphy during my school/college days! Make any project or assignment more appealing by just adding Calligraphy to it. Many of my students have shared pics with me wherein they have incorporated Calligraphy in their school projects. How cool, right?

Bullet Journaling – I love bullet journaling, turning blank sheets of paper into a work of art by creating monthly and weekly layouts and adding pretty banners & illustrations. I personally love to write the headers (months, weekdays, etc.) in Calligraphy to make everything look prettier.

Envelope Addressing – When we spend so much time and effort in ensuring the invitation to any event is gorgeous, why shouldn't the names of the invitees written on the envelopes be just as or even more beautiful?

Labelling – I personally love organising, and for me, organising is complete once all items have been labelled, haha. I love labelling my folders, and what better way to make them look more beautiful other than writing them in Calligraphy? I have also labelled some of my kitchen jars using Calligraphy and you can do the same. You will, of course, need to know “Faux Calligraphy” and will need to have specific tools such as paint markers to achieve this task.

Name/Placecards – If you often have family/friends gatherings to celebrate special occasions, then why not surprise them with your art by writing their names on placecards and placing them on the dining table? I am sure they are going to love it!

Menus – Another way to spice up get-togethers at home is by writing out the entire menu in Calligraphy. You can experiment with different layouts and textures.

Teaching – If you feel confident in your art and wish to share it with the world then teaching Calligraphy is a great way to do so. I personally never intended to take up Calligraphy as a career, but I realised I love teaching and the journey began from there!

Bookmarks/Frames – Lastly, you can also write quotes in Calligraphy and turn them into bookmarks or frames to gift them to your near and dear ones. These make amazing gifts and nothing’s better than a handmade gift!

There are still so many more applications with varied complexities, with immense potential to spread joy and exclusivity. All you need to do is to hop onto the Calligraphy wagon and explore a whole new world of endless possibilities. Join me as I continue to uncover Calligraphy in so many different ways.
